School Trip

This Friday we are going on our school trip to Auckland Zoo.  We have been learning about native birds and will be looking carefully at this area of the zoo as well as seeing the rest of the zoo too.

Make sure you:

- Bring a packed lunch
- Water bottle
- Raincoat (just incase)
- Comfortable and sensible walking shoes (we will be doing a lot of walking)
- Wear your school uniform

This week is Samoan language week...

This week is a special week.  It is Samoan language week.  You can practise some counting at home.

 

Maths

Ruma Rua is working so hard in maths.

This is the guess the number game.  Selena is thinking of a number between 0-50.  We have to guess number ranges.  Example - is it between 10 and 15?

Look at us - we are learning how to add to numbers together by counting on from the largest number.

Example: 8+3= First we lock 8 into our head then we count 3 more on.  8 - 9, 10, 11,12.  The answer is 12!

The room 2 children have settled back well into term 2.  It is pleasing to see some of the children have been practising their learning over the break!  Keep it up - 'Practise makes perfect!'

This term we have begun a new type of learning.  Every Friday we do 'Friday Maths'.  This means we will do problem solving activities.  We will work in little groups to try and solve a tricky maths problem.  Check out this weeks maths.

The problem:
Jason makes a train from a green rod, black rod and yellow rod.  Kim makes a train from a green rod, black rod and blue rod.  Which train is the longest?

Homework for the holidays...

Kia ora Ruma Rua,

Yes even though it is the holidays it is important that you keep up with your learning, 2 weeks is a long time.

Things you can do:

- Reading eggs:  your login and password are in your notebook.  Remember mum and dad can help you login (remember you push the keys so you learn how to do this), but you need to do the work by yourself I want to know what you can do.

- Basic words and alphabet list: keep learning these.  You might get your family to mix these up and test you out of order.

- Writing: write a story about what you have done in the holidays.  Try to sound out those tricky words.

- Maths: count as many things as possible letterboxes, apples, easter eggs, fingers, toes.

Easter...

This week is the last week of the school term.  We have had a wonderful first term and our learning has already improved from day one.

Over the holidays you can keep practising your learning at home.
Here are some ideas:

- Write a story
- Keep learning your alphabet letter names and sounds
- Pracitse counting.  You may count the apples at the supermarket, letterboxes when you go for a walk or even how many wheels are on the cars as you are driving.
- Go to the local library and get some books to read

Problem Solving

We did some problem solving on Friday.
Miss Best shared a problem with us and we had to solve it.
We worked as a class first to solve the problem then drew some pictures to show our learning.

The problem:  Mother bear has 5 baby bear cubs she wants to make them each a new jacket.  Each jacket needs 3 buttons how many does she need to buy?
