Our topic is New Zealand explorers. Today we got a chance to skype with Dr Lars Brabyn, an Antarctic researcher who lives in Hamilton. He makes regular trips to remote parts of Antartica so we prepared a list of questions. We took turns asking Dr Brabyn our questions and he had some very funny stories to tell.

Measurement in Friday maths.
Today in Friday maths we were problem solving using measurement.
Can we create a bridge that will span the river? Yes we can!
We can make playdough worms which are longer and shorter than the picture.
This worm became super long!
Who can make the tallest tower? We have a problem-they keep falling over.
Yazaan has a solution. Make the base of the tower stronger by joining the blocks together in an alternating pattern.
Success!
A trip to the Zoo
We travelled to the zoo in a very long bendy bus.
Getting ready to explore.
Wow! This is big
Pridelands has several giraffe. We know a poem about a giraffe.
Allan and Labronz investigate the tortoises.
Meerkat on duty.
Look the tortoises have babies!
We loved the flamingos. We wondered what they were doing. Is this how they eat their food?
The hippo is in the mud wallow. Did you know this is how they keep clean? It helps to get rid of lice and fleas.
Tane Mahuta guards the forest. We have been learning about Tane in Room 2.
Kristy our zoo educator shows us how we can be kereru and lay eggs.
Many of us thought the alligator was the most terrifying! We had a great day.

Vote for a new flag
In Room 2 we looked at the 5 flag options and voted on our
favourite flag. We collected the results and created a graph which shows the
data.
We then took a second vote comparing our most popular option
against the old NZ flag and we graphed the results. Guess which flag won? The new one!

What are the differences between the shapes?
We then played a game where we had to guess the shape in the feely bag before we took it out to look at it. We had to feel the edges and consider the number of sides and corners.
